With over 40 years of exploring botanical liqueurs in the Ollantaytambo Valley, Destilería Andina approached us to rebrand their Caña Alta product line. Thus, Salqa was born, a brand that lives up to its history and tradition, while also granting it a solid entry into the peruvian market.
Destilería Andina emerged as a concept in the Cusco highlands around 1983, with a flagship beverage: matacuy, a traditional Andean elixir also considered medicinal. Over time, and with the ambition to professionalize the production of cañazo, the company began to expand its offerings, which made its communication and branding needs more complex. This path led them to us.
Salqa was born as the brand for its family of young and aged spirits. For its label, we developed a typography based on the windows of the Ollantaytambo complex and an illustration featuring the animals of the sacred Andean trinity (the condor, the puma, and the snake). An identity that represents the untamed nature of its name and its experimental spirit.
Since the drinks played a leading role in the rituals of ancient Andean cultures, we got involved in every element of the bottle. In addition to working on the label, we even focused on the cork, where we placed a reduction of the drawing of the mythological trinity. The detail that crowns this association with mysticism is a golden seal with a kero, the ceremonial container par excellence.
This project was awarded a silver prize in the Packaging – Beverages category at the 2024 Latin American Design Awards.
